Rebuilding thru Art Project, Inc. (RAP): North Park Heights Mural Project Aug 2011- Apr 2015 Baltimore, MD
Indoor mural: Large canvas mural panels to be installed in spring of 2015. Acrylic paint on ‘parachute’ cloth. Brought Orthodox Jewish, African American and Hispanic American middle school boys together to explore mutual understanding. Workshops/Paint Teams: 24 middle school students, plus parents, staff from N Park Heights community organizations, interns and volunteers. 125 participants. Partners: Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore, CHAI, Cross Country Elementary Middle, Fallstaff Elementary Middle, poet Jill Solomon.
RAP Project: The Graduation Mural May 2013 - Aug 2014 Oakland, CA
Outdoor mural: 650 sq. ft. for Coliseum College Prep Academy a middle high school dedicated to graduating all students. Transformed barren outdoor space. Acrylic paint. 200 participants.
The Stoneleigh Mural Project Jan -June 2014 Baltimore, MD
Indoor mural panels: 6 panels in my ‘studio style”, acrylic canvas cut-outs heat fused on canvas on 4’ x 8’ gator boards. Green Dreams - A STEAM based mural project for Stoneleigh Elementary School, Baltimore County. The entire K-5 students, plus faculty, parents. 800 participants.
RAP Project: The Pratt House Mural July 2013 - Jan 2014 Baltimore, MD
Indoor mural: 2000 sq. ft. includes walls in two rooms plus matching walls with ”house paint”. 130 ft x 12 ft plus eight palm tree planters. Acrylic paint. Transformed large meeting/dining room. Commissioned by Volunteers of America for The Pratt House, a housing site for homeless families. Themes based on 4 Jewish concepts of justice/dignity. 85 participants.
RAP Project: Grow Justice Peninsula JCC July- Oct 2013 Foster City, CA
Outdoor mural: 1800 sq. ft. includes wall 130 ft x 12 ft plus eight palm tree planters. Acrylic paint and ceramics. Transformed large exterior space including the Justice Garden at the Peninsula JCC. Themes based on 4 Jewish concepts of justice/dignity. Over 800 participants.
TESCA and Torah Jan 2010- present Reisterstown, MD
Lead artist and co-founder for a series of workshops to create sacred items for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. Based on interviews and workshops with the child and their family. Includes prayer shawls hand dyed and woven, poetry, invitations, ceramic and glass objects. Partners: Temple Emanuel Studio of Cooperative Artists ( TESCA), Temple Emanuel Congregation of Baltimore.
The Capital Camps Mural Project June 2012- Aug 2012 Waynesboro, PA
Outdoor mural: 2 story high mural , a series of several canvas panels and painted plywood panels to create a sacred space for Shabbat services. 400 sq ft. Acrylic paint on canvas and wood . Workshops/Paint Teams: over 300 campers plus counselors and staff. Partner: Capital Camps.
RAP Project: Under the Very Same Yellow Sun Nov 2011- Aug 2012 Baltimore, MD
Indoor mural: 3 story stairwell mural as a vibrant entrance to the new music rooms of OrchKids at their East Baltimore headquarters. Acrylic paint on cinder block and drywall. Workshops/Paint Teams: 32 pre-schoolers, 12 middle school students, plus interns, community volunteers. Theme related to music from the 12 countries represented by the students plus performances in class. Partners: Highlandtown Elementary Middle School, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra OrchKids, poet Jill Solomon.
RAP Project: RAPoetry on the Wall Nov 2011- Aug 2012 Baltimore, MD
Indoor mural: 16 ruah panels, 12’ x 4.5’ acrylic paint on canvas panels. Workshops and Paint Teams: 14 3rd-5th grade students, interns, community volunteers. The final mural created for the school gym and in particular for OrchKid performances. Students wrote Haiku and sketched musicians. Partners: Lockerman-Bundy Elementary, The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra OrchKids, poet Jill Solomon.

Jay has been a consultant, volunteer and board member for many non-profit organizations including the Midtown Edmondson Avenue Improvement Association, the Maryland You Are Beautiful for 21 years under 4 Maryland governors, Co-Chair of The Arts Transition Team for Baltimore Mayor O’Malley, The Jewish Community Center of Greater Baltimore, Mayor's Cable Communications Advisory Commission ( Baltimore Mayor O’Malley), HERO (Maryland's largest HIV/AIDS health care service), The Rosebud Film Festival (a mid-Atlantic fest), Sudbrook Magnet School (a middle school in Baltimore County), The Gordon Center For the Performing Arts, The NAACP and The National Park Service.
His work has also been used to raise money for many non-pofit organizations including Health Care for the Homeless, Temple Emanuel of Baltimore, Center Stage, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra OrchKids, Maryland Center for Poverty Solutions, Young Audiences of Maryland, Illuminations (part of Catholic Charities), Safer Kids, Cystic Fibrosis, The Creative Alliance, Kids on the Hill, the William J. Clinton Presidential Foundation and National Federation for the Blind.
Additional Career Achievements
Schooled in the arts of dance, music, film, and theatre, Jay moved from Broadway to Hollywood to government but always created fine art. Additional career achievements include:
Since 2002, Jay has collaborated on art projects with his daughter’s teachers and school classes, beginning in pre-school and now in high school.
Co-founder of TESCA - Temple Emanuel Studio of Cooperative Artists
Developed a powerful educational relationship between the private school, The Park School of Baltimore, and the inner city pubic school Lockerman-Bundy Elementary.
Served as Artistic Consultant and visual arts “Artist in Residence” for the JCC Maccabi ArtsFest which celebrated its international debut in Baltimore, August 2006.
Co-founder and President of Rebuilding thru Art Project, Inc. (RAP) -a 501c-3 since 2005
Formed Consider Adoption, a group that uses art to help promote and fund adoption as a viable means of building a loving family.
Served as Director of the Maryland Film Commission, 1987 to 1993. Worked on more than 35 Hollywood productions and helped create: the union’s Studio Mechanics Local; the Women In Film and Video chapter in Maryland; and the Producers Club.
Produced and directed documentary, experimental and low budget feature films in New York City and Los Angeles from 1975 to 1987.
Produced and designed lighting for Off-Off Broadway companies including The Actors Studio and Playrights Horizon - 1976-1978.
Mr. Wolf Schlossberg-Cohen's career in the arts began at the age of 8. He went on to perform and work backstage in over 100 musical productions/revues in Baltimore community theatre from the old Ford’s Theatre to dinner theatre - 1962 to 1974. From 1973- 1974 Jay also designed lights and sets for several community theatre productions.
